The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) announces its interest rate decisions and publishes the meeting minutes simultaneously. This event is the primary driver for the British Pound (GBP). The vote split among the 9 committee members is often scrutinized just as closely as the rate itself.
The BOE releases the voting breakdown (e.g., 7-2 in favor of a hike). A surprise in the voting split often causes massive GBP volatility even if the rate remains unchanged.
Unlike the Fed and ECB, the BOE releases the rate decision and the meeting minutes at the exact same time (7:00 AM EST), causing an immediate, violent market reaction.
Four times a year, the BOE also releases the Monetary Policy Report alongside the rate decision. These "Super Thursdays" are exceptionally volatile.
