Expert Advisors (EAs) and automated trading bots are powerful tools that can execute trades 24/5 without emotional interference. However, not all prop firms welcome them. Some firms ban EAs entirely due to concerns about high-frequency trading exploitation, while others allow them with conditions — such as requiring you to own the EA (no third-party black-box bots), prohibiting tick scalping, or requiring pre-approval. Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a purchased EA on a prop firm account?
It depends on the firm. Some allow any EA as long as you have a license. Others require that you developed the EA yourself and that no other trader is using the same strategy on their platform. Always check the firm-specific policy.
Do EAs work on all trading platforms?
No. MT4 and MT5 have native EA support. cTrader supports cBots (C#-based). DXtrade and TradeLocker currently have limited or no automated trading support.
Will prop firms flag my account for using an EA?
Legitimate EAs are fine. Firms typically flag accounts for: (1) exploiting simulated fills that wouldn't execute on real markets, (2) tick scalping under 30 seconds, (3) running the same strategy as many other traders.
Can I use trade copiers between my own accounts?
Most firms allow copying trades between your own accounts at the same firm. Copying FROM another trader's account is usually prohibited — it falls under "copy trading" restrictions.
