The Ultimate Head-to-Head Showdown
Platform: Topstep uses Tradovate/Rithmic but has a dedicated 'TopstepX' platform. Apex relies heavily on Rithmic/NinjaTrader.
Drawdown: Apex uses a trailing drawdown that follows unrealized profits (very hard). Topstep's drawdown is calculated at the end of the day (EOD), which is much friendlier.
Payout Rules: Apex has a 'consistency rule' requiring steady trading. Topstep is more flexible once funded.
Apex Trader Funding is the volume leader for a reason: it is incredibly cheap and easy to pass, especially during their 80-90% off sales. However, Topstep offers a far more premium experience with better payout reliability and the 'XFA' account structure which feels more professional. Use Apex if you want to churn and burn multiple accounts for cheap; use Topstep if you want a long-term trading career.
Apex runs a high-volume model relying on reset fees. Their trailing drawdown causes many traders to fail, subsidizing the low entry cost.
